Our Story

Rooted In Nature, Inspired by Africa

Rooted in Two Worlds. Made for Yours.

My name is Olimata Faal-Saho. I was born in Los Angeles, but I was raised in The Gambia — my mother's homeland on the western edge of West Africa. And if you want to understand why I started this business, you have to understand what it felt like to grow up there. We lived in a big compound — the kind where grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are never more than a few steps away. Life happened together. Meals happened together.

Every evening, without fail, we sat down to a bowl of chereh — millet couscous topped with cold whole milk — for dessert. It wasn't a recipe. It was a rhythm. A ritual that marked the end of every day, as naturally as the sun going down. At every family gathering, every celebration, every community event, the local beverages flowed freely — hibiscus, baobab, ginger — not because they were trendy, but because they were ours. They had always been there. They carried memory in every sip. And at the center of it all stood the Baobab tree — ancient, enormous, impossible to ignore.

In The Gambia, we call it the Tree of Life, and it earns that name every day. It is where the elders gather. Where children play in its shade. Where the community comes together to talk, to rest, to simply be. The baobab doesn't just feed you — it holds you.

When I Came Back to Los Angeles... ...I looked for that feeling on every shelf I passed. I searched for the taste of chereh, the deep floral tartness of real hibiscus, the earthy richness of baobab. I found imitations, approximations, versions of things — but never the real thing. Never the flavor that brought me back to that compound, to that table, to those people. So I made it myself.

What Alifa Blends Make — and Why It Matters Every product we offer is a piece of that world, brought faithfully to yours. Our natural juices — baobab, hibiscus, ginger — are made from real, quality ingredients, the way they have always been made. Our fruit refreshments blend the brightness of strawberry-watermelon and pineapple-cucumber with the same spirit of wholesome, clean refreshment.

And our African pantry staples — moringa powder, baobab powder, millet couscous — are for the ones who want to bring those flavors home and cook with them, the way our grandmothers did. No artificial colors. No unnecessary additives. Nothing that doesn't belong. Just ingredients that have nourished communities for generations — and the knowledge that they can nourish yours too.

This Is for All of You Alifa Blends is for the Gambian mother in Georgia who misses the taste of home. For the health-conscious woman in California who just discovered that baobab has more vitamin C than an orange. For the curious cook who wants to know what millet couscous tastes like made the right way.

For anyone who has ever believed that the most powerful foods on earth aren't always found in the most obvious places. Alifa Blends is a small, family-rooted business — and we are proud of that.

Every product is made with intention, every ingredient chosen with care, every batch a reflection of where we come from and who we are.

Welcome to Our Compound. The baobab tree stood at the center of our community because it gave generously — shade, fruit, nourishment, and a place to belong.

That is exactly what we hope this brand becomes for you. Pull up a chair. You're family now. — Olimata Faal-Saho, Founder

Our Inspiration

I was born in Los Angeles but raised in The Gambia, where life revolved around family, shared meals, and the Baobab tree — the Tree of Life. Every evening ended with a bowl of chereh, and every gathering was filled with hibiscus, baobab, and ginger beverages that carried memory in every sip. When I returned to Los Angeles, I searched for those real flavors but found only imitations. So I made them myself.

Our Mission

Alifa Blends brings the authentic tastes of West Africa to your home. We exist for anyone who misses the flavors of their homeland, discovers the power of traditional ingredients, or believes the best foods aren't always found in the most obvious places. Our goal is simple: to be a place of nourishment and belonging — just like the Baobab tree was for our community. Pull up a chair. You're family now.

Our Values

We make everything the way our grandmothers did — with real, quality ingredients and no artificial additives. Our juices and pantry staples honor generations of tradition while offering clean, wholesome refreshment. We are a small, family-rooted business, and every product is made with intention and care, reflecting who we are and where we come from.
